The aim of the program:

Psychology of Sport prepares students to be professional support of the amateur and professional sports people, i.e. competitors, trainers, or sport teams in terms of mental functioning, motivation, meeting the objectives and coping with stress. The program connects psychological knowledge with elements of the sport science, thus allowing holistic approach to psycho-physical condition of sportsmen – both at amateur and professional level.

 

Students gain competence enabling them to:

  • diagnose psychological needs of the athletes,
  • design and conduct mental training,
  • cooperate with trainers, doctors and physiotherapists,
  • intervene in crisis situations (e.g. injury, burnout, defeat).

Main subjects covered during the program

The program of Psychology of Sport includes subjects that connect psychology with pedagogy, physiology and practical elements:

Psychological elements:

  • mental training and techniques of concentration
  • psychology of motivation and goal setting
  • psychology of emotion and coping with stress
  • psychology of a sport team and dynamics of the group
  • psychological aspects of injury, crisis and burnout
  • communication in sport and mental coaching
  • psychology of achievements and working under pressure

Supplementary subjects:

  • anatomy and physiology of physical effort
  • basics of sport dietetics and regeneration
  • law and ethics in sport
  • research methodology in psychology of sport
  • apprenticeship in sport clubs, schools or sport academies

Teaching mode

Teaching modes: full-time and part-time mode

Part-time mode

You meet the lecturer and the group both, online and at the premises of the University. Meetings take place on weekends and selected Friday afternoons.

Full-time mode

Classes are mostly of in-person nature organized on weekdays. Typically they take place 3-4 days a week at the premises of the University and some part of the lectures is delivered on-line.

How can you study this major?

Hybrid learning

Part of the classes (mainly lectures) are delivered on the MS Teams platform, and majority of labs are based on-site in the lecture rooms.


The schedule includes days that are fully remote, but also days that all classes are held on-site.

  • are interested in human psychology while in rivalry and effort,
  • want to support others in meeting their goals and overcoming the psychological barriers,
  • plan to work with athletes, trainers and sport teams,
  • are ready to work in a dynamic, demanding and challenging environment.

What can our graduate do?

Graduates of Psychology of Sport are specialists who combine psychological knowledge with understanding of the reality of sport environment, who are able to:

  • analyze psychological aspects of functioning of individuals and teams in sport,
  • conduct individual and group mental training,
  • support athletes in developing the mental resilience, concentration, motivation and the sense of effectiveness,
  • cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis with other specialists (trainers, dietitians, physiotherapists),
  • design psycho-educational and prevention programs in terms of mental health and welfare of the competitors.

Start of the specialty depends on the number of submissions, at least 25 people for each specialty. Chosen selection at the registration does not guarantee opening of the specialty.
