Psychotraumatology postgraduate studies offer comprehensive education in psychological, neurobiological and social aspects of trauma, and diagnostic and intervention tools for working with people who experienced trauma. The program is the answer for the growing need of specialists in psychotherapy, crisis intervention and prevention in terms of trauma.

These studies are supposed to prepare specialists of working with people with traumatic experiences, including violence, catastrophes, crisis situations or early childhood trauma.

The aim of Psychotraumatology postgraduate studies is to prepare students for effective work with people who experienced trauma:

  1. Understanding of the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms of trauma – acquiring knowledge on the organism’s reaction to stress, adaptation mechanisms and results of chronic and traumatic stress.
  2. Diagnosis of traumatic experiences and of their consequences – development of skills allowing to recognize symptoms of trauma, both in psychological and neurobiological contexts.
  3. Mastering psychological interventions methods – acquiring skills in the use of effective therapeutic methods (e.g. cognitive and behavioral therapy, EMDR, crisis interventions), adjusted for the people experiencing trauma.
  4. The use of prevention strategies – preparation to counteract vicarious trauma when working with people who experienced trauma and managing own emotional health.
  5. The use of body-oriented therapy when working with trauma – learning how to work with body which can be essential element of trauma treatment, particularly in case of psychosomatic problems, chronic pain or somatic disturbances.

  • The impact of relationship trauma into developmental processes.
  • Attachment theory and its role in child development. Introduction to the attachment theory of J. Bowlby.
  • Crisis intervention and psychotraumatology: procedures, support systems and stress management.
  • Neuropsychology of trauma in development.
  • Psychological aspects of trauma in adults. Diagnosis and intervention.
  • Neurobiology of stress: mechanisms and consequences of chronic and traumatic stress.
  • Psychology of post-traumatic growth.
  • Social consequences of trauma.
  • Psychological interventions: a procedure of Exposure and Cognitive Processing.
  • Psychological intervention and cognitive and behavioral therapy when working with PTSD.
  • Short-term eclectic psychotherapy for PTSD.
  • Psycho-oncological support strategies.
  • Vicarious trauma: psychological aspects and prevention strategies.
  • Prevention and intervention in terms of suicides. Interdisciplinary approach to auto destructive behaviors.
  • EMDR therapy in working with trauma.
  • The role of a psychotherapist in therapy. Therapeutic tools, ethics, therapeutic contract, professional confidentiality and recording of traumatic experiences.
  • Trauma and chronic pain: interdisciplinary approach to psychosomatic health. Methods of working with body in the context of trauma.
  • Trauma and adaptation capabilities. Analysis of mental and personality disorders when facing trauma.
  • Psychological support for victims of violence.
  • Supervision as a tool of support in psychotraumatology.
